Building and construction trade group donates to SAFE

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Building and Construction Trade Group recently made a generous donation to the Sylacauga Alliance for the Enhancement of the Family (SAFE) to strengthen and support all families in the community.

Sammy Dobson, president of the Building and Construction Trade Group, represented the nonprofit organization at the presentation of the donation to Margaret Morton, executive director of SAFE.

“SAFE is grateful for the support of organizations like the Building and Construction Trade Group who recognize that individuals and families are hurting and need extra support from time to time,” Morton said. “SAFE’s vision is to achieve an enduring culture of health, well-being, and economic stability for the children and families of Talladega County, the region, and our state. This can only be done if we all work together.

The Building and Construction Trades Group (BCTG) was established in 1967 to provide community services. BCTG has built and operated a 10-story apartment building at Five Points South that has provided affordable housing for seniors for over 35 years.

BCTG exited the apartment business in 2005 and has since refocused its community services to diversify their impact.

The group has donated more than $290,000 to local charities and community groups over the past 14 years, including volunteer firefighters, youth programs, disabled athletes and athletics, educational groups, libraries, humane societies and for-profit groups in the seven counties surrounding Birmingham. .
